Welcome to the CHW Virtual Academy

The CHW Virtual Academy is a place for everyone who provides education, outreach, and support in their community - whether you call yourself a CHW or something else. As a CHW, you understand your communities and their complexities better than most. You know what your communities need and how best to distribute appropriate resources.

The CHW Virtual Academy wants to make sure you always have what you need.

What makes the CHW Virtual Academy different?

At the online Community Health Worker (CHW) Virtual Academy, our mission is to create transformative learning experiences and revolutionize continuing education for CHWs {to build health equity & work with other professions}. We are dedicated to creating a network of proficient and empowered CHWs via cutting-edge, culturally-competent, online professional learning experiences. With a foundation of inclusivity and accessibility, the CHW Virtual Academy aims to equip CHWs with the knowledge, skills, and tools to serve diverse communities effectively. By fostering a virtual learning environment, we strive to break down barriers, ensuring that CHWs, regardless of location, have the skills and tools to positively and meaningful impact the health and well-being of their communities.

Phase 1: Course materials are created, reviewed, and edited by KDHRC researchers and experts.

Courses usually include educational videos, quizzes to test knowledge, and handouts/worksheets for CHWs to practice what they’ve learned in their own communities! These course materials are originally conceptualized and designed by KDHRC professionals before they are then sent into Phase 2.

Phase 2: Panels of expert CHWs evaluate and provide feedback to improve the quality of the course materials.

KDHRC recruits panels of experts to insure that all materials are as helpful to CHW Virtual Academy students as possible. Each course and all course materials are reviewed and evaluated by CHWs that work directly with represented populations.

Phase 3: Course materials are edited, reviewed, and released.

After working closely with the CHW panelists, KDHRC team members then change the course materials to reflect the suggestions from the experts. Once the course passes through all the checks in Phases 1-3, the course is released to the CHW Virtual Academy!
