About the CHW Virtual Academy

Our Story & Our Mission

The CHW Virtual Academy believes in accessibility, and makes it possible for all employees to live fulfilling professional and personal lives. We want to extend this kind of accessibility to Community Health Workers across diverse populations. KDHRC professionals took time to understand what CHWs need and want from training opportunities, and used these as the foundation for the Virtual Academy. We insured that it was easy-to-use, accessible for CHWs who were on the go, had some resources in Spanish and English, held everything in one location, and provided training based in research and expert experience.

The CHW Virtual Academy takes a unique approach to creating courses. Our first step is to understand the need, then collaborate to create equitable solutions. We partner with CHW Panelists, Community Health Organizations, and other nonprofits to deliver culturally competent, CHW-reviewed, easy-to-use, and engaging training materials. If you’d like to connect with our staff to create a program, conduct research, or otherwise engage with KDHRC, we encourage you to visit the ‘News’ Page.

By fostering a virtual learning environment, we strive to break down barriers, ensuring that CHWs, regardless of location, have the skills and tools to positively and meaningful impact the health and well-being of their communities.

Other CHW Virtual Academy courses...

Established by KDH Research & Communication (KDHRC), the CHW Virtual Academy is home to all of our rigorously developed and tested CHW courses.
All courses were created with the hope of increasing the knowledge and confidence of CHWs on a variety of topics, ranging from minority oral health to caring for special needs children to supporting postpartum women. As a one-stop shop for all our programs, KDHRC’s CHW Virtual Academy empowers CHWs in meaningful ways.

The CHW Virtual Academy challenges KDHRC staff to collaborate with industry experts to contribute science-based, engaging, and inclusive training materials available to Community Health Workers. Each value of the Virtual Academy is derived from KHDRC’s guiding principles and is reflected in each course available.
